SUPER BOWL SNOW DUCK DAY!

6 Feb

ET Texan Snowman!

YES!  It finally snowed in London!  And it was Super Bowl Sunday back in the states.  Americans abroad have this sentimental spot for Super Bowl as it is a piece of American pop culture and sporting event that seems to be unparalleled to any other sporting event besides the Olympics.  Of course there are some major sporting events on this part of the world, Wimbledon just down the road, Soccer, Rugby and Cricket throughout Europe to name a few, but rarely do they have a 20 minute halftime show displaying the likes of Madonna and friends.  And my friends thought I was mad when I told them I wanted to stay up to watch the game for the commercials as well.  It’s just a part of our pop culture and it’s rare to understand unless you live and are from the US.  Marketing at it’s best!  So…did we watch it?  No.  We had a weekend full of snow and cooking.  Hibernation!  Plus, the game started at 11 pm our time…we were just too shattered to stay up and watch since we had work and school the next day. Kudos to my American expats who stayed up!   But I did “You Tube” the commercials and Madonna the next day and I’m sure Eric will key in on the highlights of the actual game.  Congrats to the New York Giants.  Maybe one day our Texans will be a part of it!

Our garden in the evening with a beautiful red sky...

The snow was quite memorable for us as a little family from Texas.  I must say, and I know many Briton’s agree, London is absolutely gorgeous in two seasons.  Spring and when it snows.  There is something so magical about it.  Once the snow stopped long enough in the evening, the sky turned a romantic color of soft red.  It was remarkable really.  And we just could not wait till the kids woke up to see all the snow on the ground.   So after a big breakfast that was inhaled at lighting speed by Anastacia, we headed to our back garden.  Others headed toward the common up the hill in Wimbledon but with 3 young ones, our garden was just right for them…and us!  ;)  So, we finally had our “London snow day”.  And Anastacia will be the first in our family to say she walked 1/2 mile in the snow to get to school! HA!  It’s always cold around here so the fact that it FINALLY snowed made it all worth while the Olympic sporting event of getting bundled up ALL the time.  And to celebrate our Super Bowl Snowy weekend, we cooked our first duck dish along with various seasonal vegetables and drank hot chocolate till the kids were sugar drunk.  We may not have celebrated a typical Super Bowl Sunday but we certainly filled up our warm tummies.  Cheers to hibernation!  Now…to clean our house and work off this duck.  Quack, Quack!
